USC, Minnesota and Michigan State Earn Final Women’s Soccer Weekly Awards

Trojans’ Hayes and Gladu, Gophers’ Boman, Spartans’ McPherson receive weekly recognition

Offensive Player of the Week 
Maile Hayes, USC 
Sr. – F – The Woodlands, Texas - Major: Project Management  

  • Scored the game-winning goal against No. 8 UCLA to clinch the Big Ten Regular Season Championship on Sunday in front of 6,281 fans at Dignity Health Sports Park 

  • Played 70 minutes and put two shots on goal in the match 

  • Improved her team-leading goal total to eight this season 

  • Five of her eight goals have come in Big Ten play as she led USC to an undefeated conference record throughout the regular season 

  • Last USC Offensive Player of the Week: Helena Sampaio (Oct. 22, 2024) 

Defensive Player of the Week  
Sophia Boman, Minnesota 
Gr. – D – Edina, Minn. – Major: Pre-Med  

  • Scored the game-winning goal over No. 11 Iowa on Sunday, her fifth of the season 

  • Has played 29 consecutive 90-minute matches, dating back to last season 

  • With the win, Minnesota has received a No. 15 ranking in the Top Drawer Soccer Top 25 

  • Last Minnesota Defensive Player of the Week: Gabbie Cesarone (Oct. 11, 2022) 

 

Goalkeeper of the Week  
Laurence Gladu, USC 
Gr.  – GK – Montreal, Quebec – Major: Biology 

  • Posted a shutout against No. 8 UCLA to clinch the Big Ten Regular Season Championship for No. 6 USC on Sunday in front of 6,281 fans at Dignity Health Sports Park 

  • Made two saves in the second half, including a one-handed diving stop on a shot in the 67th minute 

  • The shutout was her ninth of the season and lowered her goals against average to 0.71 on the year and 0.55 in Big Ten play 

  • In wins over three straight ranked opponents to end the regular season, her only goal allowed was a PK 

  • Led USC to an undefeated regular season in Big Ten play 

  • Gladu is the first USC player to earn Goalkeeper of the Week  

 

Freshman of the Week 
Kaleigh McPherson, Michigan State 
MF – St. Charles, Mo. - Major: Pre-Nursing 

  • Started and played 90 minutes in Michigan State’s 3-1 win over Purdue 

  • Scored the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute 

  • The goal was her first of the season and first of her career 

  • Helped limit Purdue to five shots on goal as a defensive midfielder 

  • Last Michigan State Freshman of the Week: Bella Najera (Oct. 24, 2023)
